Our owner, Freddie Combas (often referred to as The Pondman™), is passionate about helping property owners maintain their custom ponds, and he frequently shares the following tips:

  1. Regularly clean the pond’s skimmer and filter. Cleaning these crucial components of your pond will ensure proper water circulation and prevent debris from accumulating in the water. This simple step will keep your pond healthy and clean.
  2. Monitor the pond’s water quality. To optimize the health of pond plants and fish, maintaining the right pH, ammonia, and nitrate levels is essential. If the pond water is unbalanced, make sure to consult one of our aquascape contractors to safely restore your pond to healthy levels.
  3. Control algae growth. If you frequently notice algae blooms in your pond, there are a variety of ways to prevent algae from spreading. We often recommend adding more aquatic plants or using a high-quality water treatment to safely reduce algae without impacting the health of your pond.
  4. Maintain consistent water levels. In the sweltering summer months, evaporation can cause your pond’s water levels to decrease. Make sure to regularly top off your pond with fresh water to ensure the fish and plants within it continue to thrive.
